THE INSIDE TRACK |
A few times a year, late at night, cars arrive in Boulder with Big Wheels strapped
to the roof. In garages around town. grown-ups are sawing up the plastic, chopper-style
tricycles. reinforcing them with PVC piping.
It's all in preparation for the Almost Annual Matt Armbruster Memorial Big
Wheel Rally on the Downtown Mall. It's a kind of "Road Warrior" on
souped-up kiddie toys. where the Green Machine (the one with that cool rear
brake) and Big Wheels rule, and the precious fuel comes from downtown-area bars.
The event begins at 9 p.m. at the West End Tavern and wobbles its way down the mall, stopping to tank up at bars along the way. Bring your own Big Wheel or reasonable facsimile. According to the rules of the rally, "drunken butt-heads" need not apply.
